I am everyone’s receptacle of secrets.
Hallow as a gilded reliquary,
I hold each lie and confession.

Like saints’ clavicles and vertebrae.
Transparent, I display the treasures
I am trusted to safekeep.

They do not expect me to judge or offer.
To them I am as flat as a fresco,
Unremarkable face emerging

From cerulean and gold. I belong
To those who underestimate me.
The stars squint in the dormant sky.
