Again this first fall weekend our children dance
(There is little dancing here without our dancers.)
They’ve returned to college, adding to the distance.
We enter this season of fogs and wistfulness
with joints more fouled, our weights up (though no one had to guess.)
Harriet at least is back having outlived cancer.

The grasses and the wooden sprigs, thin as grass,
intrude and plagiarize the summer cabin’s floor.
