Since it is Sunday and there is still time,
I think, instead of walking in the woods
Looking for mushrooms, I will try to be
The good neighbor I look out for in others:
Why not carry a trash bag through the poison
Ivy and pick up after idiots.

I should say inadvertent idiots
I think, because at least half of the time,
And twice on Sundays, I see through the woods
Of malice to a meadow, in which others
And even one’s sour self can seem to be
Innocent of the malice that is poison.

Some of the mushrooms I have found are poison;
Nature itself won’t suffer idiots
To feed on it, and there may come a time
When litter’s negligence will seem to be
A self-destructive mechanism others
Imagined must be man’s, but was the woods’.

The road I walk along winds through the woods
And I feel good, while joggers sweat the poison
From their pores; better when church-going others
Drive past (I wonder what that idiot’s
Doing) and see my good deed; proud to be
A part of the Solution to my Time.
