Again the time has come to take our morning walk.
Look beneath the heavy cedars, little dear:
deer have strayed here overnight. Their hooves
have left some telltale moons and hearts in
innocent dry sands along our bending creek.
Creatures of many hungers say we’re near.
Hear them call our human name? Like your mother,
her voice floating down the distant air
where we have come awhile, they sing us back
