The specimen, from the Cordillera Septentrional,
exhibits visual characteristics of natural

Dominican ambers. Tests verify authenticity,
as do color and hardness correlating

with the great age of La Toca materials.
The clear, yellow amber containing the one-inch frog

weighs an ounce. The frog’s right arm is broken
at the far end of the humerus, the left leg at the tip

of the tibiofibula. Entombment of the frog
was probably traumatic. A predator may have brought it

to a nest in a resinous tree, where frog
and nest adhered to the resin, with decomposing bones

of other frogs, maggots, a large centipede.
The frog’s skin and eyes remain intact, transparent.
