Having everything except love
and money I count my blessings
on the fingers of both hands.

First there are the trees that kiss
cheeks and shake their flounced petticoats.
I bend one little finger to the palm.

For the fliers that unzip the slinks of night
and the bullfinch that dresses up the morning;
two more fingers make half a fist.

I count another on the sight of horses streaming;
the index, the trigger happy, the wind finder,
the Don Juan, the explorer, the reader in the dark.
