The devil, for one, is a philanthropist.
He gave so much
God told him to put on mittens.
Even so, he passed it around like a salesman
with a gold pen.
He flashed it at children in heaven.
He flashed it
at boys on the earth who talked back to him.
And their mothers looked down on them
with wild hair blowing.
So he gave it to the mothers.
He gave it to the saints on their feast days.
At last kicked out of heaven,
he held out his hands to brace himself,
or to show he was ten times angry.
