coiled to match the curve of their

perimeter. The eels’ taut arch is
repeated in the body of water beyond
their bowl. A slim hip artlessly
breaking the surface; the hip—that wing—

an island of strict shore and law.
A soft reef of thigh keeps
the deeper pastures at bay,
and a path of hair, dark as kelp,
