Water pools the roof into mirrors
thin as any, the storm lilting

itself into something lighter,
still horizontal across the buildings,

sounding softly as through gauze.
Interior material is a rhythm

masked by walls, skinned surfaces
obscuring reflection, while outside

telephone lines make neat equations
against the sky. Birds add their dull

erasure as so many marks on white.
With wings washed by distance
