Smashing sticks of gum till her jaw smarts,
Looking for something out there to look at,

Some scenery while the guy beside her
Keeps stretching his mouth but says nothing.

He gives off a crazy-type vibe: he could
Lose it any minute and not know it.

He is going to touch her, she knows it.
She’s sat on more than one daddy’s knee

And she doesn’t want the littlest touch of those hands.
The book in her lap stays shut—a mystery,

People talk to each other, kill each other;
It makes a kind of twisted sense.
