   blouse weeks before
a mastectomy,
something in the air wanting desperately to draw attention
   to itself if only to assuage
awkwardness
by forcing itself to face up to the fact that nature’s penchant
   for symmetry could not
continue,
but nobody stopped watching the electric numbers blinking
   above the double-doors
floor by floor,
