Yellow Striped Pajamas
By Shamsher Bahadur Singh

walking silently on his paws, he emerges from the semidarkness and disappears into it.
Then to go there in the dusky
heavy air of that place yet always
carrying in the shielding
You call out again to announce your arrival:
As before, there is no answer.
You stand up, look around, find the kitchen.
Going among the harsh hollows of the water,
The skiff navigates between the crests
And almost is swamped by them. The rower pulls
The word for childish greed
in Armenian is the same
as for an eye with a hole.
John was the writer tell me
who was John
Brother
Wandering with you the shore
Which parallels our river
Like a second thought,
It is the movement that disturbs the line,
Thickening the form,
Turning into warm
. . . wanting to build up my
imaginary figure with every
scrap I could find, when
Anything but rotten, such flowers are ill
named, remaining exempt from the compost fate
by a decorum of fatigue, keeping still
Skeletal kin
