Poem of the Day
Study of Children
By Asha Futterman
did you know
that you all work for me?
I asked them as a joke
did you know
that you all work for me?
I asked them as a joke
Crowned triumphant, he solved riddles,
told lies, made much of love and daughters.
The auditorium has been waiting
for what seems like years,
She sweated, sweated and swore.
She predicted a total eclipse
as if it were replenishing shade.
Two clouds above the basilica tear apart like ancient pastries,
as cabs splash dark coronas on glistening cobble-walks.
people are laughing, people are throwing
their wine glasses against the sad fires
Love, we who ply forked tongues to speak
Note what critique
Kelp, cork, and shell
I breathe the noxious air because it is there
Set free at the last moment
a green cloth folds
Here the noiseless mind
Is like a quiet wind
You flop down into the personal
Like a triumph of years standing on end
Like the stars
I’ve been wandering alot
A paper chair
