Poem of the Day
1981
By Asiya Wadud
in a world the orange sun resets
in a world the orange sun resets
Mind-potent men in their mastery,
Flowers and floaters,
Prey and pray, pretenders to the real,
For peace and peace and peace the prayers ascend
From tongues in darkness sung to tongues in light
In death
He : Deep in the cockerel’s golden heart
I loosed my bolt.
The clarion-bird lies mute
A poem must break to the surface
and nibble at light,
confounding refraction
Each of us waking to the window’s light
Has found the curtains changed, our pictures gone;
Our furniture has vanished in the night
The dove returns; it found no resting place;
It was in flight all night above the shaken seas;
Beneath ark eaves
